A high-ranking Vikings source has reportedly told ESPN.com that wide receiver Percy Harvin will ask for a revamped contract that will put him in the same salary neighborhood as NFL stars Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.
Johnson has an eight-year, $150.5 million deal with Detroit. Fitzgerald has an eight-year, $128.5 million deal with Arizona.
It’s the latest development in a week-long Harvin drama, which started with a WCCO report that No. 12 is on the trading block.
Monday, NBCSports.com spinned the story to say that Harvin plans to sit out this summer unless he gets a long-term deal.
That was followed up by NFL MVP Adrian Peterson telling KFAN-FM 100.3 that the Vikings should “never” trade Harvin, who he calls a good friend and teammate.
