It looks like the Minnesota Vikings have already found a new offensive line coach following the sudden release of Jeff Davidson this week.
According to the Star Tribune’s Sid Hartman, former Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano has been picked for the role – having formerly coached with Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer in Dallas when they were assistants.
He had a 29-31 record with the Dolphins between 2008-11, winning the AFC East on one occasion, before becoming the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets in 2012.
He went on to become the assistant head/OL coach in Oakland in 2013-14 and the 49ers tight ends coach last season, according to NFL.com.
The appointment has yet to be confirmed by the Vikings.
Earlier on Wednesday, The Daily Norseman reported Sparano was one of two candidates thought to be in the running for the position, the other being New York Giants’ OL coach Pat Flaherty.
Zimmer announced Davidson’s departure at a Tuesday press conference, saying his contract was not renewed because “I didn’t want to.”
