Former Wild head coach Dean Evason has been named as a “top candidate” for the Senators’ vacant head coach position, according to a story from Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Citizen.
Evason, 59, was the head coach of the Wild for five seasons, from July 2020 to November 2023. He compiled a 147-77-27 record, with three first-round exits in the playoffs.
He was fired after starting 5-10-4 in 2023-24 and the Wild appointed John Hynes as the new head coach.
Ottawa would be Evason’s second opportunity to be a head coach in the NHL. The story mentioned Craig Berube, Todd McLellan and Travis Green as other potential options.
Most recently, former Wild head coaches Mike Yeo and Bruce Boudreau have gotten second chances after Minnesota, and now Evason could be next.
