After being released by the Packers last weekend, safety Josh Jones is looking for a new team to sign him, and one team showing interest appears to be the Vikings.
ESPN’s Rob Demosvsky reports that Jones will visit the Vikings Friday and then meet with the Lions next week. ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reported that Jones has already met with the Bills.
Minnesota is set at safety with starters Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris, but Jones would add some depth and bring with him unmet expectations after being picked by the Packers in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
In two seasons, Jones played in 29 games, making 12 starts, and totaling 126 tackles, three sacks and one interception.
Demovsky reported in May that Jones skipped Packers organized team activities and asked for a trade. The young safety was passed up on the depth chart last season by undrafted rookie Kentrell Brice, who was also released Saturday, and his playing time wasn’t expected to be much again this season.
Minnesota has had success through the Green Bay pipeline in the past by signing the likes of Brett Favre, Ryan Longwell and Greg Jennings.
