Initial reports speculated that Gophers wide receiver Derrick Engel would miss a significant amount of time with a knee injury.
Despite catching punts during practice on Wednesday, the initial speculation has ultimately turned out to be true.
According to the Star Tribune, Engel has a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The injury effectively ends his college football career.
The senior from Chaska is Minnesota’s leading receiver with 25 receptions for 401 yards and five touchdowns.
Engel is officially listed as “questionable” on the team’s injury report.
The only other injury of note is to offensive lineman Caleb Bak, who will miss a second consecutive game because of injury.
