Any diehard Timberwolves fan can tell you all about the tenure of former general manager David Kahn. He was the team’s president of basketball operations from 2009-13.
Kahn was a part of the regime that drafted back-to-back point guards in 2009 (Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn) ahead of two-time league MVP Steph Curry.
He also drafted such draft busts as Wesley Johnson and Derrick Williams; while also signing Darko Milicic to one of the worst contracts in league history.
After departing from the Timberwolves, Kahn has been teaching at NYU while also continuing his career as a sports columnist.
On top of those impressive gigs, it now appears the University of Nevada-Las Vegas is considering Kahn as a candidate to be the school’s next AD, according to Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The Review Journal reports that in 2013, Kahn consulted with UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero in a $136 million campus pavilion upgrade.
So he has experience working with colleges, but still, one would think after his disastrous tenure with player development in Minnesota that no one would give him another shot.
Perhaps the greatest moment during Kahn’s tenure with the Wolves came when former NBA player and current analyst Chris Webber grilled Kahn for comparing his career to Milicic’s. Check out the video below.
