According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Minnesota Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell will reportedly undergo arthroscopic surgery that will require him to miss the next four-to-six weeks.
Per Wojnarowski, the surgery is expected to remove a “loose body” from Russell’s left knee that has been ailing him over the past week.
The report comes hours after the Timberwolves gave a vague update on Russell’s status after he didn’t travel with the team on their current road trip. Russell’s injury had previously been described as left leg soreness and had limited the 24-year-old to eight minutes in the past five games.
Russell has played in just 19 of the Timberwolves’ 27 games this year and is averaging 19.3 points and 5.1 assists on the season.
The Timberwolves are 7-20 on the year and will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
