Byron Buxton’s future with the Minnesota Twins is in doubt after he rejected a contract off from the club, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Dan Hayes.
What’s more is that Rosenthal says “each party rejected proposals from the other,” so the two sides haven’t yet seen eye-to-eye.
Rosenthal previously reported that Buxton would “likely” be traded if he didn’t accept an extension from the Twins. If accurate, that means Buxton could be traded by 3 p.m. Central Time on Friday, July 30.

If not traded before Friday’s deadline, Buxton is still under contract with the Twins before he’s eligible for free agency after the 2022 season.
Buxton was off to a blistering start before multiple injuries derailed his 2021 season. In just 27 games he was slashing .369/.409/.767 with 10 home runs, 11 doubles, 19 RBIs and five stolen bases.
Buxton missed more than a month early this season with a strained right hip, then shortly after returning from the injured list he was hit on the hand by a pitch from Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle.
Buxton has not played since June 21.
