In Minnesota, we love thinking about the what if’s in sports.
What if Blair Walsh’s kick hadn’t gone wide left? What if Gary Anderson’s hadn’t? What if Stephon Marbury never wanted to be traded, or what if Latrell Spreewell wasn’t so worried about feeding his kids?
Well here’s a new one for you: What if Allen Iverson was traded to the Timberwolves in 2006, instead of the Nuggets?
Former 76ers general manager Billy King revealed on The Vertical with Adrian Wojnarowski that the Timberwolves were one of three teams that Iverson wanted to be traded to.
The deal could have paired “The Answer” with “The Franchise” and probably would have stopped the Wolves from having to trade Kevin Garnett to Boston in 2007.
But, according to the Bleacher Report, Wolves owner Glen Taylor told the Pioneer Press that the Wolves couldn’t afford Iverson.
Imagine the possibilities. Would KG have ever been traded to Boston? Would the Wolves have been able to make another push for the NBA title?
How would those two having played together affected the Wolves today? Does it matter?
Or would KG and AI been able to handle each other. After all, Garnett is known for being a ferocious competitor and a hard-worker in practice. And then there’s Iverson.
What could have possibly gone wrong?
