According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Adrian Peterson is nearing a deal with the New Orleans Saints.
Rapoport notes the deal will most likely be a one-year contract that will pay Peterson about $3 million.
The former Vikings tailback met with the Saints earlier this month.
When free agency opened in March, few teams were interested in Peterson, with some saying the 32-year-old running back’s asking price was too high. But Peter King of Sports Illustrated reported last week Peterson would now take less than $5 million to be on the right team.
It would be quite the story if Peterson joined the Saints. Any diehard Vikings fan remembers Peterson’s two fumbles during 2009 NFC Championship Game (or has tried to delete that game completely from their memory.)
The Vikings open their 2017 regular season against New Orleans on Monday Night Football.
