Will the NFL allow the replacement referee drama to stretch into Week 4 games?
It’s a question that has sportswriters and opinion-makers working into the wee hours these days, as the great zebra debate of 2012 rages on.
There are several very-Minnesota takes out there on exactly what’s going on and why. Let’s start with newspaper veterans Joe Soucheray and Patrick Reusse.
In the Pioneer Press, Soucheray writes “there’s nothing charming about this.”
In the Star Tribune, Reusse writes that despite our alleged outrage, we’ll still be watching when the next game comes on TV.
In Duluth, we love Rick Lubbers (News-Tribune) line that the replacement refs are “making a mockery of a league already lacking a sense of humor.”
Ex-Viking Fran Tarkenton calls the current state of affairs “a disaster” — but says the NFL shouldn’t cave.
The best take may just be a video clip making a big splash on YouTube. It was heard first on Dan Cole’s “Common Man” show on KFAN-FM 100.3, and has since been seen on NBC’s Today Show. Yes, it’s a “Call Me, Maybe” parody…
Finally, here are the replacements we really love…
