The Boston Red Sox took the second game of a three game series with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, 2-1 at Fenway Park.
Again, pitching set the tone and again the Twins just weren’t quite good enough.
Boston’s Jon Lester out pitched Twins starter Phil Hughes, allowing the Red Sox to win their second straight one-run game over the Twins and sending the Twins to their fourth straight defeat.
Lester kept the Twins off the scoreboard for the first five innings.
Finally in the sixth, trailing 2-0, the Twins snapped their 17-inning scoreless drought. Joe Mauer doubled in Danny Santana, but the Twins stranded Mauer and second and they could get no closer.
Santana finished 2 for 4 with the Twins lone run.
Lester struck out six and allowed one Twins run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Hughes went all eight innings for Minnesota, he gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out six. He didn’t walk a hitter for the third straight start and the ninth time this season, according to the Star Tribune.
Red Sox leadoff hitter Brock Holt scored both Red Sox runs. He led off the first with a single and doubled in the third, and came around to score both times. Dustin Pedroia had a pair of hits, and an RBI.
At 32-37, this is the most games under .500 the #MNTwins have been this season.
