We don’t like to read too much into tweets that could mean nothing.
OK, yes we do, and today may be our most serious offense, but forgive us for letting Jeff Jones spark some hope that top recruits are still allowed to attend the University of Minnesota.
Sure, Jones plays football and former Robbinsdale Cooper guard Rashad Vaughn plays basketball, but it’s all one big U of M family, right?
We’ll stop beating around the bush.
Vaughn, a consensus top-20 recruit in the class of 2014, says he will announce his college basketball plans this weekend, and allegedly has his list of possible destinations cut to Iowa State and UNLV.
Today, he tweeted the following:

Sure, it could be nothing. Absolutely nothing. Less than nothing.
For that matter, it could have nothing to do with basketball. Maybe Vaughn is taking out some stress on Twitter regarding classes, or a girl, or the meaning of life, we’re not sure.
But the timing and cautionary tone of the tweet have us thinking that Vaughn has seen the reports suggesting he will be a Cyclone or Runnin’ Rebel, and prompted him to step in to quash the thoughts of those that think they’re on the inside.
On Vaughn’s official list, Kansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina also remain, though he hasn’t visited the first two, and had planned a visit to UNC next weekend, though that will obviously not happen.
Of course, it could happen if Vaughn commits to becoming a Tar Heel and playing for Roy Williams, which seems less attractive than it did in the past.
We have a much better idea anyway, so no need to even consider that possibility.
How about Rashad comes back home, plays for an up-and-coming program, and along the way picks up hero status around the state as the man that changed the path of Gopher Basketball recruiting forever.
That sounds good to us, and we have a feeling that would be a surprise Gopher head coach Richard Pitino would welcome.
