Ramsey County officials are looking at new options to build a Vikings stadium. On the table, according to the Pioneer Press, are possible taxes on liquor or hotels.
At the first Senate hearing on the stadium issue earlier this week, Republican State Sen. Julianne Ortman urged county officials to come up with a way to reduce the state’s contribution.
The move comes as the team agrees to sit down again with Minneapolis officials. The Star Tribune reports the team will work with city officials there to narrow down the options to one site. Still, the team is pushing hard to build in Arden Hills.
But rural lawmakers might hold the cards when it comes to getting a deal done. Forum Communications’ Don Davis writes rural lawmakers stepped up to help the University of Minnesota and the Twins build new facilities.
Disdain for public financing of a Vikings stadium has roared across social media over the last few days. Perhaps the most notable piece was the video below from Twin Cities blogger Ed Kohler.
