While the Vikings sit and wait to see if Christian Ponder will be ready for Sunday’s matchup with Seattle, other NFC North teams are scrambling for quarterback answers.
The Chicago Bears today ruled starting QB Jay Cutler out for their upcoming matchup with Baltimore Sunday. Head coach Marc Trestman said Cutler is “week-to-week” with a high ankle sprain, but that week isn’t this one.
Josh McCown, who nearly led Chicago to a comeback win against Detroit Sunday, is expected to start until Cutler can return.
North of the Illinois border, Green Bay worked out former Packer Matt Flynn today, and signed him just hours later.
Reports said Flynn “looked good” throwing the ball in the workout, and despite having been cut twice in the last month, Flynn will get a chance to push Scott Tolzien for the starting job moving forward. Starter Aaron Rodgers is expected to be a few more weeks away from a return.
Packers have signed Matt Flynn, who is tied for the all-time franchise record for passing yards and TD passes (6) in a single game.

Even with the Packers signing Matt Flynn, QB John Skelton is still headed to Green Bay for a workout on Tues.

Clearly, Flynn is not considered the be-all-end-all solution to Rodgers absence in Green Bay. However, his familiarity with the system gives him a nice chance to step in and play in Green Bay sooner than later, as he spent the first four years of his career in green and gold.
