The Minnesota Wild have signed prospect Gustav Olofsson. The Wild and Olofsson have agreed on a three-year entry level contract starting with the 2014-2015 season.
Olofsson was selected in the second-round, he Minnesota’s first pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, according to FOX Sports Net. He will report to the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League later this week for an amateur tryout.
“We are excited to get Gus under contract,” Wild Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr said. “His performance this year at the World Junior Championship and at Colorado College exceeded our expectations and we’re confident he’s ready for the next challenge in his young career.”
Olofsson, 19, hails from Sweden, but spent a lot of his childhood in the United States in California and Colorado, according to the Star Tribune. He scored four goals and recorded four assists at Colorado College this year.

The newspaper says he really stood out at the world junior championships, where he won silver with Sweden and had five points and was a plus-5 in seven games. He also tied for second among defensemen scoring in the tourney.
The Star Tribune reports that Olofsson is the Wild’s No. 2-rated prospect, according to the most recent Hockey News Future Watch. Fellow defenseman Matt Dumba is No.1.
Olofsson’s season came to an end against North Dakota in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference quaterfinal round. He tallied one assist in the three game series.
Olafsson was also named NCHC Academic All-Conference Team.
