Despite Vikings coach Leslie Frazier standing by his current quarterback — Christian Ponder — there are some pundits who think the Purple should at least experiment with bringing in Joe Webb.
Pioneer Press scribe Bob Sansevere’s idea is to turn to Webb when Ponder falters — like a baseball team would turn to a relief pitcher when the starter is out of gas.
Sansevere: “I’m not stumping to replace Ponder,” just “give him the hook … if he struggles.”
Ponder, meanwhile, tells KFAN-FM 100.3 today what he’s been saying for a few weeks now. He defends his receivers, and blames himself. “We’re finding ways to get open,” he said. “I have to keep doing a better job of finding where they are.
“The worst feeling in the world is to lose. I’m going to do everything I can this week to make a big progression.”
Ponder also said that he wouldn’t have pulled himself in favor of Webb.
The bottom line on this Election Day? Vikings fans are losing faith. After Week 7, 5-2 looked great. After Week 9, 5-4 is making everyone cranky — and the easiest target is the struggling sophomore quarterback:
