The Minnesota Wild can clinch a playoff berth with a win over Edmonton in the Xcel Energy Center regular season finale tonight.
“This is exciting,” Coach Mike Yeo said Friday morning. “What more do you need to say?”
Minnesota could have clinched had Dallas beat Columbus Thursday night, but the Blue Jackets won, 3-1.
Jason Pominville won’t start tonight for the Wild, according to coach Mike Yeo. But enforcer Mike Rupp will play, as he returns from a knee injury.
“We still need to lock up a good seed,” Zach Parise told the Star Tribune. “More importantly, we want to make sure we’re playing the right way and we’re getting good habits going into the playoffs. You don’t want to just kind of limp in.”
The Wild can do more than limp in if they win their last two, and San Jose loses in regulation tomorrow at Los Angeles. If that happens, the Wild will finish sixth in the Western Conference standings and will play Vancouver in the first round.
