The Twins announced four roster moves Friday, calling up infielder Jorge Polanco and pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson, and sending infielder Edouard Julien and right-hander Jorge Alcala to Triple-A St. Paul.
Polanco has missed the first 19 games of the season rehabbing a sore knee, while Woods Richardson is making his way to the big-league roster after the Twins taxed the bullpen when Kenta Maeda was knocked out of Thursday’s game in the second inning when he was struck in the ankle by a 111 mph line drive.
Emilio Pagan, Alcala and Jovani Moran all threw 40-plus pitches in the game, so Woods Richardson’s fresh arm will provide some relief for this weekend’s series against the Washington Nationals.
Woods Richardson has made two starts at Triple-A this season and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 14 hits in seven innings.
Julien smacked a pair of homers in eight games with the Twins, but was just 6-for-30 at the plate with nine strikeouts and one walk.
