There’s been no slowing down the Minnesota Wild over the past month and their hot streak continued Thursday night with a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa scored just under two minutes into the game but Minnesota responded midway through the opening period with a trio of goals in a span of 1:41, with Joel Erikkson Ek, Jason Zucker and Carson Soucy all finding the back of the net.
Zucker and Soucy scored 28 seconds apart.
When the Lightning tied the game 3-3 on a power-play tally by Victor Hedman with 1:13 remaining in the second period, the Wild struck immediately – actually, it was 36 seconds later – on a goal by Victor Rask to retake the lead, 4-3.
Alex Killorn’s goal tied the score 4-4 exactly four minutes into the third period, but Minnesota again struck immediately – it was 8 seconds later this time – on what would be the game-winning goal by Mats Zuccarello.
The Wild are 14-11-4 for the season, but they are 10-2-3 since Nov. 3, which is good for the second-most points (23) in the NHL during that span.
Minnesota can extend its points streak to 12 games when they’re back on the ice Saturday against the Hurricanes. The puck drops in Carolina at 6 p.m.
