Every sign pointed to the Twins getting a small wheelbarrow full of cash from the Dodgers in exchange for catcher Drew Butera at the July 31 trading deadline.
But that didn’t happen.
Instead, the Dodgers shipped over pitcher Miguel Sulbaran, a 19-year-old Venezuelan prospect who is spent the summer with the Great Lakes Loons (Midland, Mich.) in the Midwest League (Low-A ball). Now he’s a member of the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
In 25 games for the Loons, Sulburan was 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA, according to TwinsDaily.com.
Star Tribune Twins beat writer LaVelle E. Neal III says Sulburan is listed as the Dodgers’ 14th best prospect by MLB.com.
According to MLB.com’s 2013 Prospect Watch, the Dodgers saw Sulbaran as a starter, but “his stuff could also make him a dominant left-handed reliever.”
