With Gabe Kalscheur of DeLaSalle high school committing to the University of Minnesota on Tuesday, the Gopher men’s basketball team has one of the best 2018 recruiting classes in the country.
According to 247 Sports, the Gophers have the fifth-best recruiting class in the nation and the second-best in the Big Ten.
Kalscheur, a shooting guard, is the third in-state recruit to stay put in Minnesota.
Daniel Oturu of Cretin-Derham Hall – a four-star recruit – and Jarvis Thomas of Orono recently announced they’d be playing for Richard Pitino beginning in the 2018-19 season.
All three players were on hand at DeLaSalle where Kalscheur made his announcement.

Three of the state’s top five recruits have committed to play their college basketball with the Gophers.
The top in-state target is Tre Jones – brother of Tyus Jones – who is a five-star recruit with offers from basically everywhere.
With the Gophers coming off a turnaround season a year ago, it appears they’re building up a roster that will be able to compete for a long time.
