If Richard Pitino can recruit like his father, Rick Pitino, the Gophers are going to be really good.
Rick’s Louisville Cardinals won the National Championship in a thrilling game against Michigan Monday night.
Richard, meanwhile, is expected to be in Minnesota today with a partial staff already in place and a recruiting road map already sketched out, according to the GopherHole.com.
On Tuesday, Pitino extended a scholarship offer to Cameron Forte, a junior college player at Howard College in Texas. Pitino started recruiting Forte when he was coaching at Florida International.
On the flip side, Seton Hall (Ill.) senior Alex Foster, Tubby Smith’s final 2013 recruit, has been told that he will not be attending Minnesota this fall, according to the Star Tribune.
Foster’s mother told the Pioneer Press that Pitino’s coaching staff is “going a different route.”
Pitino has already made contact with Apple Valley point guard Tyus Jones, and plans to meet with him next week.
Bob Sansevere of the Pioneer Press headlined a podcast discussing what lies ahead for Pitino’s recruiting days at Minnesota.
