From the sound of things, the University of Minnesota men’s basketball team will be without Andre Hollins for their next two games, if not longer.
Head coach Richard Pitino spoke Friday at a scheduled news conference and said Hollins will miss Minnesota’s game at Williams Arena Saturday against Northwestern, confirming what was considered a near-certainty earlier this week.
The bad news came when Pitino said Hollins is “very unlikely” for the Gophers Wednesday trip to take on Purdue. The head coach said his chances of playing against Indiana Feb. 8 are only “a little bit better”, according to the Pioneer Press.
Hollins is averaging a team-best 15.4 points per game for Minnesota, and led the Gophers in scoring last season as well at 14.6 per contest.
Minnesota lost Hollins on the first possession of their upset win against Wisconsin last Wednesday, and couldn’t follow up their success without the junior guard, losing on the road to Nebraska 82-78 Sunday.
Malik Smith started in place of Hollins Sunday and made eight three-pointers, but only one other Gopher found double-figures in the loss.
