It was a quick stay for Delmon Young in Philadelphia.
The former Twin and number one overall pick in the 2003 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays was designated for assignment by the Phillies today just four months after making his debut in a Philly uniform.
Young’s deal was for just one season, so we may not see him in Philadelphia again.
Young’s stats weren’t bad, hitting .261 with eight homers and 31 RBI in 80 games for the floundering NL East club, but in GM Ruben Amaro Jr.’s words: “He just didn’t do it enough, or consistently enough for us to have him continue to play.”
Believe it or not, in 2010 Young finished tenth in MVP voting as a member of the Twins squad that made the playoffs.
The mighty have indeed fallen.
