It’s not a big surprise, but it is a big chunk of money. When 3 p.m. struck on Friday Adrian Peterson’s contract for the upcoming 2016 season became fully guaranteed.
Per the Pioneer Press, his base salary of $7.75 million along with a $4 million roster bonus became official, and he can make another $250,000 from a workout bonus this spring.
The guarantees are part of the agreement the Vikings and Peterson agreed to last September when Peterson made it public that he wanted more security in his contract.
Unlike MLB and NBA players, NFL players don’t have fully guaranteed contracts – and Peterson, like every other player in the league, is one injury from watching the rest of his contract go down the drain. The guarantees help alleviate those concerns.
Peterson could make up to $18 million in 2017. He’s signed through 2018 with Minnesota.
