Give Adrian Peterson some Nostradamus-like credit if he announces his retirement sometime in January or February of 2026.
On Wednesday, Peterson predicted he can play another 10 years in the NFL.
“If God’s willing, 10 more years,” Peterson said, according to Viking Update. “If God’s willing, I’ll just be able to walk away from the game at the highest level whenever I decide.”
Peterson is already defying the odds as a 30-year-old running back putting together a strong season. His 633 rushing yards rank third in the league and his 75-yard long is the second longest run in the NFL this season.
ESPN notes that Peterson – before the season began – said he thought he could play another six or seven seasons, which would give him a chance to break Emmitt Smith’s all-time rushing record.
Peterson’s 10,823 career yards are 7,532 yards behind Smith’s record.
But even with his 10-year claim, Peterson is on record saying that spending time with his kids, which he got to do while he was suspended last season, is something that could drive him into retirement sooner than later.
“Just doing simple stuff, taking them to school, picking them up, that was fun to me. I missed that,” Peterson told ESPN in August. “Unfortunately, it’s during football season. So that could bring my career to an end earlier than expected.”
