Adrian Peterson has said for years that he isn’t anywhere close to retiring, but his latest interview with ESPN’s Ben Goessling is something entirely different.
Peterson told Goessling that he’s not sure how many more training camps he wants to go through, saying the “grind” of the offseason “will definitely be the deciding factor” in when he retires.
“Physically, body-wise, I’ll be good,” Peterson said. “It’s just mentally – like with OTAs, I’m out there practicing, I’m going, I’m putting in work. But it’s so repetitive that it’s more suited toward the young guys and getting them into the system. It gets kind of boring.”
Peterson then referenced his MVP season in 2012, when he didn’t go through training camp because he was rehabbing on his own. The result was 2,097 yards and an incredible final four games to lead the Vikings into the playoffs.
