That collective breath Vikings fans had been holding since Adrian Peterson left the game at Baltimore Sunday with an injury has been released.
According to ESPN, Peterson said this afternoon that MRI results ruled out any ligament tears or Lisfranc injury. He expects to play this week against the Eagles.
As FOX Sports North reported, Peterson was in a walking boot Monday. He’s still scheduled to undergo a CT scan.
“The CT looks at the bone in-depth. Just to be able to look at the bone to make sure everything is good,” Peterson said. “Obviously the X-ray can show any type of compound break or anything like that. That will show in the X-ray. Bu they do a great job of making sure they’re able to diagnosis exactly what it is. We’re just going through the protocol.”
Peterson suffered the injury after catching a pass near the Vikings’ sideline midway through the second quarter.
“I just felt it pop a couple of times and the pain was excruciating,” Peterson said after the game, via the Star Tribune. “My initial thought was, ‘God, I hope I didn’t break anything,’ because that’s what it felt like.”
Meanwhile, quarterback Christian Ponder has been cleared to practice after passing the NFL’s concussion protocol. Head coach Leslie Frazier said during a press conference today that a decision on which quarterback will start against the Eagles will be made after further evaluation.
The Vikings were hoping to get tight end Kyle Rudolph back at practice from a broken foot this week, but the team didn’t feel he was ready so they placed him on the season-ending injured reserve list.
Frazier also touched on a bunch of other injuries.
- Tight end John Carlson is day-to-day with a concussion.
- Running back Toby Gerhart, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown after Peterson left the game, is day-to-day with a hamstring injury.
- Cornerback Xavier Rhodes is day-to-day with a sprained ankle.
- Right guard Brandon Fusco is day-to-day with a sprained knee.
- Cornerback Josh Robinson is making progress from a fractured sternum but he won’t play this week.
- Wide receiver Greg Childs will finish the year on the physically unable to perform list.
