The American League defeated the National League 5-3 in the 85th All-Star Game at Target Field.
Twins closer Glen Perkins finished the game in the ninth inning to pick up the save. His battery mate Kurt Suzuki came on to catch him for the final inning as well.
Perkins sent the N-L down 1-2-3 in the ninth. He coaxed a fly out to center from Miguel Montero. He then fanned Josh Harrison for the second out and Charlie Blackmon grounded out to close out the game.
It couldn't have worked out any better for Glen Perkins and Kurt Suzuki. A perfect ninth inning. Fans cheered loudly for the AL win.

“I was numb,” said Perkins. “I couldn’t slow down, it was so exciting.”
It was Derek Jeter’s 14th and final All-Star Game. He left the game to a standing ovation in the fourth inning.

He put together a nice game for his final All-Star Game. Jeter, who led off for the American League, hit a double in the bottom of the first inning, and scored the first run moments later on a triple from Mike Trout.
Jeter finished the game 2-for-2.
The A.L. wasn’t done yet though. Miguel Cabrera slugged a two-run homer to give the American League a 3-0 lead, before an out was recorded.
The National League battled back to even the score at three apiece.
But then in the fifth inning, off Minnesota native and Cardinals reliever Pat Neshek, the American League broke through for a pair of runs on the second extra base hit of the game from Trout.
Neshek wound up getting tagged with the loss, while Trout was named the game’s MVP.
Detroit’s Max Scherzer picked up the victory.
The Pioneer Press captured some of the early moments of the game.
