Glen Perkins was not used in the ninth inning of the Twins’ 3-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night. Instead, it was Kevin Jepsen earning the save.
Perkins, according to the Star Tribune, has been dealing with back spasms. It’s not the same issue that forced him to miss games a couple of weeks ago, when he needed a cortisone shot to relieve his sore neck.

“There’s no bulging disk,” Manager Paul Molitor said, via TwinsBaseball.com. “There’s no serious issue that we have to look at, other than we gotta figure out how to keep this from continuing to flare up. There’s a good chance he might stay back and spend some time with our guys to see if we can get him back and see if we can get him out on the trip at some point.”
The Twins wrap up a three-game home series with the White Sox Thursday before flying to Houston for the start of a crucial nine-game road trip. The trip will feature series’ against the Astros, White Sox and Royals before returning to Target Field for a 10-game homestand.
In 17 games since being traded to the Twins, Jepsen has 5 saves and a 2.31 ERA.
