Penn State University is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has been charged with 40 sex crimes against minors. Longtime Nittany Lions head coach Joe Paterno’s job is now at risk. He reported allegations of the crimes to school officials, but failed to report anything to the police.
Paterno, 84, has been in charge at Penn State for 46-years. The only man with more coaching wins at the college level is St. John’s coach John Gagliardi. He says what’s happening to Paterno and Penn State is “beyond belief.”
The newest football coach in Minnesota, Jerry Kill, didn’t want to discuss details of the scandal, but he did say it would be sad to see Paterno go out on a negative note.
University of Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi plans on using the scandal as a teaching tool for University coaches. He holds a monthly meeting with his coaches, and plans on bringing it up the next time they get together.
