The Timberwolves have a chance to make up some ground in the chase for the playoffs when they meet the Suns in Phoenix tonight.
Minnesota is 6 1/2 games behind the Suns, who currently hold the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference playoff race.
Nikola Pekovic has missed 12 consecutive games since being diagnosed with bursitis in his ankle nearly a month ago, but there’s a chance he’ll be back in the lineup tonight. He participated in this morning’s team shoot-around and is questionable for the game, but he made it sound like his chances of playing are slim.
“It’s just tough, going through all this stuff,” he said, according to the Star Tribune. “I’m trying to make it better. I try to work really hard and I can’t really play. All of a sudden, you feel pain and sometimes, you don’t feel pain. Sometimes I don’t know what’s really right or what’s not. It has just been really frustrating to em. It was like seven to 10 days and now it has been like four weeks. It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating. I really want to play.”
Kevin Martin, however, will not play. The team announced that Martin met with a hand specialist on Monday and his broken thumb is making progress. Tonight will be the seventh straight game he’s missed. His status for Saturday’s game at Sacramento is uncertain.
