During a press conference addressing the dismissal of longtime general manager Terry Ryan, Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad said manager Paul Molitor isn’t going anywhere.
The Twins’ managerial job is Molitor’s now and it will be again next season if he wants it – which Pohlad indicated Molitor does.
“I spoke to Paul yesterday and told Paul that he will be the manager in 2017,” Pohlad said. “There’s another side to that and that’s Paul wanting to be the manager in 2017, but from our discussion I certainly believe that he’s on board with that.
Molitor guided the Twins to 83 wins as a rookie manager in 2015 only to have this season revert back to a pace of 90 or more losses.
New GM by the end of the season
Pohlad and Twins President Dave St. Peter have not begun the search for Ryan’s replacement, but they do have a goal of hiring someone by the end of the season. That means the Twins could have a new GM by Oct. 2 – a little more than two months from now.
