It’s a good sign that Joe Mauer has been working out before each Twins game during the last week or so, but there’s still no timetable for him to return from a neck strain and concussion-like symptoms.
“Just kind of hasn’t changed much,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said Friday, via the team’s site. “We’ve just been running him through workouts. Trying to get some consistency with where he’s at. We’re just going to allow that to unfold as it needs to.”
Molitor added that they could send Mauer to Triple-A Rochester to see how his concussion symptoms respond to live game action, but they’re “not at that point” yet.

According to team reporter Rhett Bollinger, Mauer has experienced balance issues and sensitivity to light since first experiencing symptoms during a game May 18, a full week after initially injuring himself diving for a ball in a game against the Angels on May 11.
Mauer was nearing a return to the lineup last week after going about five days without symptoms, only to have a sudden onset occur while warming up for a game, prompting the Twins to exercise more caution.
The 35-year-old first baseman suffered a severe concussion in 2013 that forced a stop to days as an All-Star caliber catcher.
The Twins have gone 9-11 in 20 games since Mauer was placed on the disabled list.
