The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback extraordinaire Patrick Mahomes left the field injured on Thursday Night Football, and is now set to be out for at least a few weeks.
While an MRI on Friday will reveal more, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports that Mahomes is expected to miss at least three weeks with a dislocated kneecap, which considering how bad the injury looked is actually quite a relief.
But it likely means that the Minnesota Vikings will travel to Kansas in a few weeks knowing they won’t have to face the best quarterback in the NFL.
A three week layoff would take Mahomes beyond the Vikings’ visit on Nov. 3.
Prior to Mahomes’ injury, a visit to the 5-2 Chiefs would have seen the Vikings enter as the underdogs, but could now arguably be considered the favorites as they go up against the 11-year veteran Matt Moore.
That said, the Chiefs didn’t have any problems finishing off the Broncos on Thursday night after Mahomes went off injured.
Mahomes will also miss the visit of the Packers next weekend, who would also have likely entered the game as underdogs despite their 5-1 record.
As some are pointing out on Twitter, that’s bad news for the Detroit Lions, who would be hoping to see their NFC North rivals drop some games in Missouri, having already narrowly lost to them when they met earlier this season.
