The Minnesota Vikings announced Wednesday that starting center Pat Elflein will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Elflein, in his second year after being drafted in the third round out of Ohio State, missed all of the organized team activities and mandatory minicamp after undergoing surgery to repair a broken ankle.
Elflein fractured his left ankle in Minnesota’s 38-7 loss to the Eagles in the Jan. 21 NFC Championship Game. He underwent surgery a week later and was originally expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
The Vikings signed free agent center J.P. Quinn to provide depth at center to start training camp, but there’s no indication that Elflein will miss an extended period of time.
We’ll likely learn a little bit more about Elflein’s status when head coach Mike Zimmer speaks to media members on Wednesday.
