Friday is a huge day for Aaron Rodgers as he has yet to practice since suffering a knee injury in Green Bay’s Week 1 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.
Rodgers, who is dealing with a left knee sprain, didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday. Green Bay does not have practice on Friday, meaning he’ll likely be listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
Saturday’s practice in Green Bay could go a long way in hinting at whether he’ll play or not, but it’s entirely possible that Rodgers could miss the entire week of practice and still play if his knee feels good enough on Sunday morning.
“I think he’s going through the process. Obviously, whatever the protocol is, I’m sure he’s sore today,” said Packers coach Mike McCarthy on Thursday, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “This is no layup. That’s why it’s a day-to-day situation.”
Rodgers’ status hanging in the balance forces the Vikings to prepare as if he’s going to play. But if he can’t give it a go on Sunday, or if the Packers force him to sit out to avoid worsening the injury, the Vikings would face DeShone Kizer, whom they essentially chewed up and spit out in a win over the Browns in London last season.
That said, “the vibe feels like he’s going to try [to play],” an unidentified Packers player told ESPN.
At this point, it’s a waiting game and we probably won’t find out until Sunday morning if Rodgers will play.
