Adrian Peterson was named to the Pro Bowl but he will not be participating when the best players in the NFL meet in Hawaii next month following the Super Bowl.
The Green Bay Packers, of all outlets, broke the news when they announced that rookie running back Eddie Lacy will serve as an injury replacement for Peterson. According to the Pioneer Press, Peterson decided to pull out of the Pro Bowl to rest the nagging groin and hamstring injuries that bothered him for the majority of the season.
Peterson rushed for more than 1,200 yards this season.
Lacy is one of five finalists up for the NFL Rookie of the Year award. He rushed for 1,178 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Also up for the award is Vikings rookie wide receiver/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson.
Patterson was recently named first-team All-NFL by the Pro Football Writers’ Association. Patterson is also Minnesota’s only Pro Bowl-bound player. He’s replacing Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown as a return specialist.
On Wednesday, Patterson was named to the NFL’s “All Fundamentals Team,” according to the Star Tribune.
