Lakers great Magic Johnson congratulated Tim Connelly on the Denver Nuggets’ first ever NBA Championship.
That’s Tim Connelly, the current president of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While Connelly was certainly a big part of building the Nuggets roster as Denver’s President from 2017 and before that General Manager since 2013, he’s no longer affiliated with the team after the Wolves hired him last offseason.
Magic tweeted out late Monday night: “Congratulations to Denver Nuggets President Tim Connelly, GM & former player Calvin Booth, and Coach Mike Malone and his entire staff. They did an excellent job coaching every series of the Playoffs!”

Johnson fixed his mistake midday Wednesday saying, “I understand that Tim Connelly is with the Timberwolves now but want to give him a lot of credit for building this team!”

While Connelly moved from Denver to Minnesota, there was a major Minnesota influence in the Nuggets’ championship win, with former head coach Ryan Saunders – the son of Wolves legend Flip Saunders – the assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets.
And with the likes of Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert in the Timberwolves lineup, we’re sure it’s only a matter of time before Connelly enjoys the same success as Denver achieved last night
