The Vikings quarterback carousel should come to a stop on Christian Ponder this Sunday, according to some trustworthy speculation.
Leslie Frazier said earlier in the week that he had made up his mind between Josh Freeman and Ponder (Matt Cassel is definitely number three at this point), but wasn’t going to announce it until the end of the week.
As BringMeTheNews reported Wednesday, Jerome Simpson thinks it’s Mr. Samantha Steele.
So Sid Hartman takes it to center John Sullivan: “[Ponder] prepared really hard and he went out there and laid it all on the line,” Sullivan said. “But I’d love to see him stay back there, of course.”
And here’s what the Star Tribune Vikings beat writers have to say: “Ponder was seen taking first-team reps during the portion of practice open to reporters. Freeman stayed after practice to run plays with the young backups. And Ponder’s body language suggested he has been given another shot to jump-start what’s left of his career in Minnesota.”
Freeman has been cleared to play after a concussion he suffered two weeks ago, and Ponder is clearly over whatever rib issue was plaguing him earlier in the season.
SB Nation points out that one lonely soul, EPSN’s Ed Werder, thinks Freeman will start.
This is all speculation, of course. the way Vikings 2013 has been going, anything could happen. Might we suggest a platoon system, where they alternate on each play?
