Two games into the regular season, the Minnesota Twins are in a tailspin. The Detroit Tigers beat the Twins 11-0 Wednesday afternoon in Detroit.
The loss followed a gem from Tigers’ Opening Day starter David Price leading to a 4-0 Tigers victory on Monday – meaning the Twins have gone the first 18 innings of the season without a run.
The Twins are the first AL team to be shut out in back-to-back games to open a season since the 1977 Mariners, per @baseball_ref.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Twins starter Ricky Nolasco didn’t last long, he gave up six runs on six hits, while walking four in just three innings of work. It didn’t get much better for Tim Stauffer out of the bullpen, he gave up three runs (two earned) in just 1 2/3 innings.

Jose Iglesias led the way at the plate for the Tigers, he was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. While Anthony Gose was 3-for-6 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Ian Kinsler also drove in four runs.
It was more than enough run support for Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez. He held the Twins to three hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings. Sanchez struck out six and walked two.
Kyle Gibson hopes to change the Twins (0-2) fortunes around in Thursday’s season finale. Gibson matches up with Tigers righty Shane Greene.
