Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks is in need of a team after Memphis told him he would not be brought back under any circumstances, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The wording of Shams’ tweet led to head turns and jokes but it leaves the question of where Brooks will play next season now that he’ll be an unrestricted free agent.

By now, there’s a decent chance you’ve seen numerous articles aggregate For The Win’s homemade odds that suggest the five teams with the best odds to sign Brooks are the Timberwolves, Rockets, Trail Blazers, Kings and Mavericks. Their reasoning:
Brooks could help fill the void left by Jarred Vanderbilt when Minnesota traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers. Between budding star Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, the Wolves can generate offense, but they could use a stronger presence on the defensive perimeter to ease Edwards’ load on that end.
But this is the real world and in the real world there are real betting odds, and according to DraftKings Sportsbook the Timberwolves are tied with the Spurs, Raptors, Hawks and Warriors for the 13th-best odds to sign Brooks.

Brooks, 27, scored 14.3 points per game, good for fourth on the second place Grizzlies. He also finished the season with the ninth most fouls in the league. While not the most effective on the offensive end, Brooks provides a lot of value defensively.
Keep in mind that Brooks allegedly wants $25 million annually, and with the Timberwolves already paying Karl-Anthony Towns an estimated $50 million and Rudy Gobert $41 million next season – and needing to give Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels new contracts – they probably can’t afford another significant contract like Brooks wants.
