The Gopher hockey team escaped South Bend, Indiana with a 5-4 win over Notre Dame on Saturday.
Minnesota was led by a group of freshmen in the victory.
The Gophers came out of a wild first period holding a 3-2 lead, and that set the tone for the rest of the night.
Hudson Fasching scored a pair of goals in the game. Taylor Cammarata had a goal and two assists to help lead the Gophers in the victory.
With the score tied at four in the third period, Minnesota’s Jake Bischoff put the Gophers up for good. He beat Irish goalie Steven Summerhays at the 8:57 mark.
Minnesota then held on for the victory. After losing on Friday to the Irish, the win was important for the Gophers, as they avoided the weekend sweep.
