It wasn’t Minnesota’s night at the Kohl Center, something that has been said in multiple sports before, as No. 12 Wisconsin upset the Gopher men’s hockey team 2-1.
The rare Thursday contest saw the Badgers open the scoring in front of a raucous home crowd in the first period, a power-play goal for Frankie Simonelli.
The nation’s top team evened the score just two minutes later, Taylor Cammarata scoring to knot things at one.
After a scoreless second period, Jake McCabe scored the decisive goal with 6:13 left in the final period, and even with an empty net, the Gophers couldn’t pull one back late.
Wisconsin scores the third period's only goal as the Badgers win 2-1, giving the Gophers their first Big Ten loss of the season.

The loss snaps the Gophers 14-game unbeaten streak, which was their longest since the 2006-07 season, and goalie Adam Wilcox streak of the same length, which was the longest in the country.
The two sides conclude their series tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at Kohl Center, also the home of Wisconsin hoops, the Badgers with a chance to split the season series with the Gophers after being swept earlier this season.
