The Minnesota Twins saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon as Kevin Newman delivered a walk-off single off Taylor Rogers to hand the Twins a 6-5 loss at PNC Park.
The loss came despite three blasts from the Twins with the first coming in the opening inning when Miguel Sano hit a laser off of Pittsburgh starter JT Brubaker.
Sano’s homer had an exit velocity of 114 mph and landed with a thud off the seats in left field to give the Twins an early 3-0 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last long, however, as Gregory Polanco launched a three-run homer off Kenta Maeda to tie the game in the bottom of the second, but the Twins used their power to regain control of the game.
Byron Buxton hit his first home run of the season in the top of the fourth and Eddie Rosario added on with another solo home run in the fifth to put Minnesota ahead 5-3 and allow them to turn to their bullpen.

But the Pirates were able to get a run off Sergio Romo in the eighth inning to tighten things up. Rogers came in for the save, but a leadoff single by Colin Moran and a double by Bryan Reynolds set the stage for Newman’s heroics to plate both and walk off on the Twins.
The Twins fell to 10-3 with the loss and they’ll head to Kansas City to open up a three-game series on Friday night when Devin Smeltzer (1-0, 11.57 ERA) takes the mound against Jakob Junis (0-0, 4.15 ERA).
