The NFL scouting circus will be heading to Fargo this weekend as teams attempt to get a look at Trey Lance. The North Dakota State quarterback will take part in a showcase against Central Arkansas on Saturday as he looks to impress scouts ahead of next year’s NFL Draft.
Lance is in a unique situation as he heads into his redshirt sophomore year with the Bison. With the Missouri Valley Conference canceling their football season, Lance will not have the opportunity to add to his resume after a stellar 2019 season.
In his first season as the Bison’s starting quarterback, Lance threw for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. In addition, Lance also ran for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns while helping NDSU claim its eighth FCS National Championship in the past nine seasons.
Lance’s performance opened the eyes of many draft scouts and has him projected toward the top of the 2021 draft class with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
Because of his lofty draft status, The Draft Network’s Jordan Reid reported that 28 teams are expected to head to Fargo to scout the Marshall, Minn. native.

With the Bison declaring the exhibition a “showcase game,” this could be Lance’s only opportunity to impress scouts in 2020. If it goes well, there’s a good chance Lance could be one of the first names called in the 2021 NFL Draft.
