CBS Sports reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says Minnesota could face “serious consequences” if the Legislature fails to reach a deal on a stadium bill this session, which is quickly coming to a close.
After a phone conversation with Goodell, Gov. Mark Dayton said the commissioner also told him the Metrodome is below the NFL’s standards, according to the Pioneer Press.
Goodell and Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney II, chairman of the league’s stadium commission, are flying into the Twin Cities to meet personally with the governor and other lawmakers on Friday.
Dayton says the stadium cannot wait until next year. “The reality is that there are other cities looking for a franchise,” he said in a news conference with reporters on Thursday. He said Goodell has issued a formal “warning.” Read more at Politics in Minnesota.
The stadium proposal suffered a serious blow earlier this week when a House panel shot it down.
