New Timberwolves general manager Flip Saunders Friday introduced the team’s two No. 1 picks selected during Thursday night’s NBA Draft, the Star Tribune reports.
Addressing local media at Target Center in Minneapolis, Saunders introduced fellow first-rounds Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng as “winners” and said they were “NBA ready to contribute.”
The Wolves selected UCLA’s Muhammad as the 14th overall pick, and Dieng, a center from national champion Louisville, at No. 21 overall.
Muhammad addressed criticism by fans and members of the sports media — heard on radio call-in shows and posted online — about his “me-first, shoot-first playing style,” the Star Tribune said..
“That’s one thing I’m really working on, figuring it out,” Muhammad said. “It makes life way easier to be unselfish, for yourself and your teammates. I”m concentrating on that.”
The Wolves’ two No. 1 picks came to the team after Saunders — who selected Michigan point guard Trey Burke with the No. 9 overall pick — traded Burke to Utah for the No. 14 and No. 21 picks.
