The Timberwolves introduced Milt Newton as the team’s new general manager at a press conference Tuesday.
“It means a lot to me, because as I mentioned this was the goal of mine and it became the dream for myself and my wife,” Newton said. “So to be able to share it with my family, who played an instrumental part in me getting to this point, was very gratifying.”
Newton’s wife grew up in Minnetonka. Getting his wife back home was an appealing reason to take the job.
”Preventing my wife a chance to come home? I’d be divorced,” he joked, according to John Krawczynksi. .
In a Quick Hits video on Timberwolves.com, Newton says he has an “eye for talent” and his goal is to help Saunders find better players.
Saunders still has the “ultimate authority” on all decisions, but Newton will provide insight on all personnel decisions, according to FOX Sports North.
“This has been my goal for 22 years and I was really fortunate to get to know Flip and like I said, we know each other well,” Newton said. “I think we will work well together. I’m really blessed to be in this position.”
